Mia Michaels returns for "Day After" master class at 2014 WGI Color Guard Championships

Emmy-winning choreographer sold out previous WGI sessions

DAYTON, OH, February 28, 2014 — WGI Sport of the Arts continues its "Day After" educational series with the announcement that contemporary choreographer Mia Michaels will return to conduct a master class in conjunction with the WGI Color Guard World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. The class will take place on the floor of the UD Arena for 500 performers on Sunday, April 6 at 10:00 AM.

Mia Michaels Unit directors can contact WGI to register their performers to experience a class led by one of today's leaders in contemporary dance. Students wishing to participate should go through their director. Registrations for dancers begin March 3 at 12 PM (Eastern). Those wishing to observe the class may purchase spectator tickets at the door for $10 per person.

"Each time Mia has headlined our Sunday dance class, we have had an extraordinary amount of interest and sold out the number of spaces we had for dancers in minutes," said WGI Executive Director Ron Nankervis. "It is with great excitement we welcome her back to color guard's premier event."

Ms. Michaels' involvement with WGI began when she was the guest clinician at Spinfest!! in 2007. Her 2014 appearance will be her fourth time at the WGI Color Guard World Championships and her third time conducting WGI's popular "Day After" series.

Michaels' expertise and motivational approach in dance has made her a highly sought-after guest instructor and choreographer worldwide. As the reigning queen of contemporary dance, Michaels' work has been described as "personal, passionate, quirky, beautiful, challenging and uncompromisingly original." Her inspirational and dynamic choreography was seen on Fox's hit TV series So You Think You Can Dance and earned three Emmy Awards for outstanding choreography. Her passionate dance moves have graced the stage of Cirque Du Soleil's Delirium live music concert tour, and also the long-running Las Vegas theatrical production of Celine Dion...A New Day at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

WGI Sport of the Arts Michaels has had the pleasure of working with such stars as Madonna, Prince, Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan, and she has created commercials for Coldwell Banker, Ziploc, WNBA, Star TV and VISA. She is the artistic director of The Pulse dance conventions and has held faculty positions with such prestigious dance institutions as Alvin Ailey and the Joffrey Ballet while continuing to teach master classes around the world.
