SAN DIEGO, CA (April 8, 2013) The World Drum Major Association (WDMA) will host its annual Scholastic Drum Major Championships at Loara High School in Anaheim, California on Saturday, April 13. Students representing 50 schools will deliver up to 200 drum major performances as they compete in conducting, baton and mace, with each division divided into Novice Class, Open Class and World Class.
The WDMA Scholastic Drum Major Circuit provides K-12 drum majors the opportunity to perform, compete and advance their craft in a solo performance setting with musical selections of their choice.
Many of the drum majors competing in the WDMA Scholastic Drum Major Circuit are not only drum majors of their field and parade bands, but also champions of the most prestigious band reviews and parades. Some have marched in DCI World Class and Open Class drum corps as members and drum majors, have appeared in the Tournament of Roses Parade or the Fiesta Bowl Parade, competed at the World Drum Major Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, and have become drum majors of major university marching bands.
Evaluating the performances is a judging panel comprising some of the most respected and experienced individuals in the drum major activity, which include former state champion drum majors, university music professors and drum major adjudicators of various marching band circuits nationwide.
In addition to hosting the nation's largest and most competitive scholastic drum major circuit, World Drum Major Association is host to the United States Drum Major Championships and the Canadian Invitational Drum Major Championships. WDMA also provides educational camps (drummajorcamp.com) and local, regional and national educational seminars, as well as internationally in Asia, Africa and Europe.
