The Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade is the official parade marking the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. It takes place annually on
Pearl Harbor Day December 7 and is recognized by the city of Honolulu, the state of Hawaii, Pacific Historic Parks, The Navy League,
The Military Order of the Purple Hearts, each of the Branches of the Military, along with the Historic Programs organization.
Marching bands are an important part of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade, and students perform in front of thousands of enthusiastic
spectators along Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki. Bands from the continental U.S. as well as the Hawaiian islands are
invited. The 2016 parade featured 19 marching bands from 18 states. In addition to performing in the parade, bands have the opportunity to
perform at the official public ceremony as part of a Mass Band led by the Marine Forces Pacific Band.
The parade route takes bands from historic Fort DeRussy, through the scenic streets of Waikiki, to Kapiolani Park at the foot of Diamond Head Crater.
This event is unlike any other event available to a marching band. In the words of a participant director, "This was the
most truly meaningful and educationally enriching program I have ever been a part of in my forty years of teaching music."
